My last weekend in the Netherlands, for now. Not exactly sure when my Visa would arrive I had booked my return flight at the end of the weekend, in case it would be in Saturday's mail.
Earlier that week I had received an invitation of Arnoud to, once again, join him, and today also Sana, in a sailing outing on the IJsselmeer. Sana and Arnoud had made this appoint some time ago and I could coincidentally join them. This is almost becoming a good tradition, last year I was also the guest of Arnoud and his wife Wynanda, aboard their nice sailing boat, see here.
Sana and Arnoud would be there the whole weekend. I could, with a plane to catch tomorrow, of course join only for one day. The idea was that I would park my car in the village of Hindeloopen where Sana would collect me and drive me to Workum where Arnoud’s yacht is docked. Due to a festival in Hindeloopen this plan was cancelled.
We set sail to the great IJsselmeer (IJssel Lake) so, once again within a week I was on a boat on IJssel waters (see here). Our destination: the Village of Makkum, a pintoresk village on the North East shore, that prospered in the 1600s due to the presence of the locks that gave access to the Sea (now lake). Due to the lack of wind it took us quite some time. But a pleasant time. Makkum offered more Dutch (Frisian) nostalgy.
