My quest for having hiked all the Manhattan avenues (crossing 89th Street) has almost come to an end. There are only two Avenues missing. A short one and a long one. The short one is the 0.9-km long (0.6-mile) long East End Avenue.

The northern section of East End
East End's north boundary is practically located in my backyard.

Unlike the majority of my hikes, I started in the northern section this time. At the corner of E90th Street and the FDR drive is the Asphalt Green a sporting facility. If one ignores the FDR Drive the spot also provides a nice view on Hell Gate, the Triboro Bridge and the Hell Gate Bridge.

Walking South another highlight immediately shows up: Carl Schurz Park, the park in which the Mayor's House, Gracie Mansion, is located. Apart from these two items East End is a pretty boring and highly ruined Avenue. It used to have nice old brownstone houses.

They are all gone and replaced by ugly high-rises, or simply extended by putting a modern section on top of an older building. One pleasant exception is the block between E87th and E86th streets.

At E80th Street I encountered a nice view point over the East River, and at E79th I reached the "south end" of East End. Too short and in no way a training for my last and upcoming hike: Broadway!
