Les Guigons de Vezias an abandoned site that came back to life

My last day in the Ardeche region. Due to the fact that the weather was so bad yesterday, and that it had tremendously improved today it was decided that I would not leave early but by the end of the day. That gave extra time to have a good look around the gite where I had stayed the past days, for another small walk in the village, and for a visit to some caves in the area (see next blog entry).
I had been staying in a very unique place: Les Gîtes des Guigons de Vezias also known as Les Gîtes de l'Oustaou. The gite is almost a small village by itself. It is a huge complex of several ancient buildings clustered together on the side of a hill. Due to the linking and the many ground levels the complex features very picturesque alleys and twisting stairs. The walls of the gites are almost 1 meter thick, and the rooms are built in ancient arch vaults.
The owner of the gite explained that when he purchased the site it was in a state of total disrepair.
