Hackfort Castle and surroundings

I got up late today. But there was still enough time for a small hike. I decided to walk in the area of Hackfort Castle which is located near the village of Vorden. It sounds English, but it is really Dutch!
Hackfort Castle is a very well preserved castle. Its history dates back as far as the year 1392, at that time not more than just a residential tower. In the 1500s the castle was destroyed by the Spaniards during the Eighty Year's War. But, it got, fortunately, rebuilt in 1598 and modified in 1788. At that time the moat was filled too.
The last owners were baron Arend and his sisters. None of them had heirs, and when the last sister died in 1981, the estate was donated to the Society for Preservation of Nature Monuments.
I thought the hike would be easy. Just in the meadows with hardly any inclination. And that was indeed easy. But, I am apparently used too the US way of marking trails. Die to the odd way the trail was marked here I lost track of the trail many times. In the end I figured out he route from the little trail map rather than from the confusing trail blazers. No mountain hike in New York, but still a pleasant landscape to hike.
