At Tayta, what a surprise! ;)
Manfred was the 1st person who made a comment about my Amazon Cruise dream destination. He was coming to South America and found that idea really interesting. We started to talk about that idea and how fun it would be exploring the Amazon. Actually he was the one who will help me knowing more about the Amazon. He’s gonna do a trip like that in a couple of weeks, so later I’ll ask him for advise, hehe. Anyway, he arrived to Peru a couple of weeks ago but didn’t arrive to Lima until yesterday and what did he do during his first day here? Meeting this crazy TB addict, haha.

We agreed to meet in Miraflores at 7pm, near to his hostel, or as he called it: “my place”, haha.

nice waiting area!
I arrived and saw a guy looking for somebody. I recognized him and he did the same instantly. After a hug and saying him: Welcome to Lima! He asked me if I was hungry. It was early, but by the time we arrived wherever we decided to go, I might be hungry. But before start walking he made a confession: “I’m vegetarian!” He was a bit afraid: “Would I be able to enjoy the famous Peruvian food?” Aha! I just said: “This might be difficult but not impossible. I’d do my best!” Manfred told me not to worry because he loves potatoes and Peru is Potatoes Homeland, haha. Actually, having him would be more than great, since a vegetarian is attending the Meet Up in September and I wanted to learn how to make him enjoy the Peruvian Cuisine ;)

I decided to go to Larcomar - the mall in the cliff with a great view of the sea and the coast.

having our 1st Maracuya Sours :)
We started walking and he was just trying to orientate himself. He just came from Huaraz, which is in the north of Lima, but is highlands. He did a trekking there. One which is not as famous as the Inca Trail, but it crosses part of Inca Roads. I was telling him about Lima and Miraflores. We were chatting a lot and didn’t notice we arrived to the mall, hehe. He really liked it! He even said, this might be one of his favorite malls ever. That location is unbeatable! He was also admired by the Architecture. How nice the new and the old buildings match. He said to me, he didn’t expect Lima to be so pretty. Yeah! I was doing a great job as the Lima official TB guide :)

He was enjoying the view so much, that I thought the best thing would be going to Mango’s and got a table in the terrace.

this is the famous pisco, mmm...
The terrace was packed, but there was 1 table waiting for us, cool! Furthermore we arrived just in time for the Happy Hour, haha! So, I told him that he’d try the Pisco and he didn’t know anything about it. What?!?!?! No problem, I’d fix that and I did a really good job. We ended having 4 each one, oooops! Not the traditional Pisco Sour, but the Maracuya one - so tasty! Manfred was telling me about his South American trip. It’d last 4 months approx. He started in Venezuela, went to Colombia & Ecuador. Then he came to Peru and would keep on going through Brazil, Bolivia, Peru again and Argentina, ufff.
at Mangos during his first night in Lima :)
He didn’t have exact dates, just planned everything spontaneously. Well, almost always. He met the official planer who planned his next day in Lima, haha. I even drew a map from downtown and made a list with the things to see there, haha. And what about food? Well, I ordered “Yucas stuffed with cheese” The yuca is a root similar to the potato, which grows here. And as dip, we got the Huancaina Sauce, which is typical made with yellow pepper, cheese, milk, salt, pepper and crackers. It was the perfect choice. He was also telling me he likes corn. So, I asked the waiter if he could bring us a bit of “Canchita” so, he would try this fried corn. And he loved it too! So, it’s possible enjoying Peruvian Cuisine if you don’t eat meat ;)

At 10:30pm we left the place. I asked him if he was tired, but he wasn’t and since we were just a couple of blocks a way from the Tayta, we ended going to my favorite bar, haha. And we were lucky again, we found a perfect table haha. We kept on chatting about his past and future travels. He has been in many places, but it was his 1st time in South America and so far he loves it! Well, it was around midnight when we left. I had to work the next day in the morning and he had already a plan for downtown, haha. I told him to give me a call when he was back from downtown and we’d meet in the afternoon for keeping on exploring Lima.
