A Mini Meet Up with Francois & Lindsay – new friends!
Last night, or should I say early today, Francois & I
agreed to meet at noon. We’d try to find entrances for a show either that day
later or the next day – his last night in
We drove to pick up Lindsay and he was already at the door.
We arrived on perfect time, he just went out of the house, haha. I didn’t need
to ask what Lindsay wants for lunch: Fish and Seafood. We were talking about
that during our 1st meeting + he loves seafood, haha. Where to go?
To a touristy place or to one just the locals know? Let’s go to the locals’
one, haha. It’s located in other area of
Lindsay was a bit sad, the place didn’t have a nice view,
but the minute he saw the food everything changed, haha.
The restaurant wasn’t
crowded, so we could choose our table, but by the time we left it was packed,
haha. First the drinks: Francois got a Cuzquena (beer), Lindsay a Cristal
(another beer) and I got an Inca Kola. Well, I was the driver – what a
responsible girl, haha. I think I was spoiling these 2 guys, mmm. I’m kidding.
I loved being with them :)
We had Mussels for appetizer and I ordered 3 dishes to
share, so they could taste a bit of everything. Of course the cebiche was one
of them. The 2nd one was a “chicharron mixto” which is fried fish
and seafood. This one is Francois’ favorite – especially for the Tartare Sauce,
hehe. And the 3rd one was my favorite: the tiradito – but to make it
different I ordered the one with 3 creams. Wow! It was a lot of tasty food. They
liked every dish. Lindsay was more than happy with the shrimps, haha.
Lindsay
was flying back home that day but late at night, so there was time to hang out
and show him a bit of my beloved Lima.
Next Stop: the Indian Market. Both, Francois & Lindsay
wanted to buy some souvenirs. Maybe they could have gone by their own, but I
was sure my bargain skills would be very helpful and they were, haha. Lindsay
found the scarfs and chullos (typical Peruvian hats from highlands) he was
looking for and Francois found a nice Peruvian jacket. We arrived when it was
still a bit sunny and by the time we left it was getting a bit windy, haha. Well,
I didn’t need to say how long we were there, haha, but we got good deals ;)
And where to go now? We had still a couple of hours, before
Lindsay should go to the airport, mmm.
It was time to show Lindsay around
Barranco, since it was the area he wanted to stay in when he decided to visit
Our waiter, Ivan, came with our drinks and told us a bit
our Barranco and
Time to say good bye to Lindsay :( I was sad, but also
happy because I had the opportunity to meet a nice guy and made a friend in
I went back home, met family and Gunther and of course
checked TB, haha. Francois called me asking if we would still meet. What? Of
course we would and we did, haha. I left home, but not driving, haha, just in
case, haha. We met around 9 at his hostel and went to a bar. My choice was the “Posada
del Angel”, a lovely place with angels and live music, an eclectic and mystic
place. We had a couple of beers and an appetizer. If we’d drink, we should have
something in our stomachs, haha. We stayed there for almost 2 hours and then we
decided to explore Barranco’s night life.
It was strange, but everything was quiet. Just a few places
were open. I thought about a traditional bar in the boulevard, but there was
the presentation of a band, which I didn’t know.
So we preferred to go anywhere
else. There was a small pub. They offered a free pisco sour, which never came,
and we went inside. We had a couple of pinas coladas, and then left. The environment
wasn’t very good. Where to go now? And we went back to Rustica, haha, the
restaurant where we had lunch the day before. At night it becomes a pub/disco. There
weren’t many people there and the music was too loud. So we didn’t stay next to
the dance floor, haha. But it didn’t help us to have our Pisco Sours. It was
still

So, the location might not be the best, but once you get inside you will see that the place is packed with locals, which is a good sign. I use to come here with local friends and decided to come with Francois and Lindsay when they were here. I warned them, not to expect for a fancy local with a super view, but be ready for delicious food!
As all the local seafood and fish restaurants, they just serve for lunch. I recommend to do a reservation during the weekends and holidays, since it might be packed with locals.
Scallops, crab, the freshest of fish, Pisco, and the ceviche...a hidden treasure.
They offer a good variety of cebiches and other seafood dishes like tiradito (a cebiche without onions), parihuela (a spicy thick soup with fish, shellfish and crabs), jalea (fried seafood on top of a fried fish filet covered with an onions salad), sudado, etc. The piqueos (platters with appetizers) are really good.
They have a nice selection of pisco's drinks too and prepare a good pisco sour.
The staff is helpful, but when the place is packed they can be a bit slow. My recommendation is arrive early (12:45 - 1), so you will be the center of attraction, haha.
The problem they used to have was not having enough parking places. But right now they have to parking lots, so they are getting better.
If you are looking for a fish and seafood experience, not touristy but more Local - this place should be part of your list!

This cafe / bar / restaurant has been open for over 15 years. They have a fantastic ocean view and peaceful atmosphere, which make it charming.
The staff is helpful. The waiter even gave us a history lesson, haha. They offer different drinks - including beer and wine, but the specialties are the drinks with pisco.
They fix pisco cocktails with different fruits. Besides the traditional Pisco Sour, you can taste: Passion Fruit - , Tangerine - , Apple - Raspberry sour.
The best thing here is the beautiful view and laid back atmosphere. Great to spend time with friends, someone special or just by your own.
