Mike’s last day in Peru - part II: party night with TB’s and old friends… unforgettable ;)
The host appeared.
He was really a showman, a fun one! He introduced the 1st performance of the night, the: “Sicuris”. They were playing some music with Peruvian instruments and 2 girls went table by table, asking people to dance in the middle. One of them came to our table and Ana went to dance in representation of the table, haha. Then the host announced the 1st dance of the show: the “Llamerada” from Puno area. It represents the llamas. The dancers appeared wearing colorful customs and danced very well. Brandon & Mike seemed to be enjoying the show of Peruvian folklore.
There was a break after the dance and Annie & Fabricio arrived. Annie is my cousin - she also went to highschool with me and Fabricio is her boyfriend. So glad part of the family was there too, haha. Of course she asked me where I met Mike and Jenny, but I avoided the question really fast, haha.
It would be too much trying to explain all the story, ufff.
It was time for more dances. First one from highlands and then another one from the rainforest. I really liked it, because the rainforest’s folklore is not very popular yet. So it was nice to see something new. Still something new to me. Well, it was time to refill our drinks and of course we should have pisco, haha. Mike got a Maracuya Sour (with Passion Fruit) and I got something new: Piscoco pisco with coconut. So sweet and tasty!
Ok, it was time for a break for the dancers, but not for us, haha. The night was just beginning, but it didn’t stop me to start dancing haha. I went to the dance floor with Jenny, haha. At that time Romain and Elena arrived.
They were late because Elena had a big problem with her car. Some thieves opened it and took almost everything, too bad… But they were there wanting to think about something different and have fun with friends. That’s the spirit!!!
Time for another dance: “La Morenada” also from Puno and has so colorful customs. This was amazing! Mike and Brandon enjoyed it a lot. Now it was time for more dancing haha. At this time everyone went to the dance floor. We were partying and having a great time. And now the real show was about to start. I call it the real show because the performers will be the foreigners from the audience, have to see it!
First the host went table to table asking who was visiting
We took a sit while the host kept on “interviewing” other people when I got a SMS. I didn’t recognize the number, but it was from somebody who was there because it said: “Why didn’t you say you were French too?”
OMG who is here? Then I got another one: “Gotcha!” Finally a last one with the name.
And I got it! It was one of my customers!!!! Hahaha I called him and asked him where he was sit. I looked for him and met him. I was about going back to my table when a guy asked me to dance. I was about saying no, but he was my customer’s son. Business are business haha. But I met “my people” at the dance floor, haha.
There was another dance from Puno and time for more dancing for us. I was dancing with Mike and I saw a girl with a familiar face. I recognized her. She used to work at the counter at the gym where I work out. Haha. So fun meeting her there. I haven’t seen her in months! Mike was just saying: “Girl you know everybody!” Life if about contacts, dear ;)
Ok, now it was show time!!!! The host asked all the foreigners to go to the dance floor and be ready for … becoming part of the show ;) Ana and I went to the front and took a sit on the floor next to the dance floor to get great pics of our artists.
There were about 20 people from 10 different countries. The host said it was fair that our new friends showed us something of the folklore of their countries, since he enjoyed the Peruvian folklore recently. And this is what happened.
South American Friends:
1.- Colombian crowd: there were 5 people (4 girls and 1 guy who danced terrific!) and what they did? They danced the “Cumbia” typical music from
2.- Venezuelan guy: he was alone and was asked to dance the “Joropo” a dance typical from
3.- Bolivian ambassador: he was also alone, but would dance by his own.
The host asked him to choose the music. And he chose a difficult one to dance: tuntuna. I wasn’t sure if how he’s gonna do it. But he rocked! Also the host was surprised, haha.
Now going to
4.- Frenchy: now it was time for Romain, haha. I was waiting for this moment so long, just wondering what he’s gonna do. First the host asked him to sing, haha, and he did it! But just briefly, it was a joke. Now it was time for dancing, but what? French Can-Can, haha. The host joined him and the 2 were dancing together, haha. So fun! Well, Romain has to be ready for the Meet Up. He’d have to say he’s French at that time too, hehe.
5.- English guy: he was also by his own and the host didn’t know what music he could dance. So his solution was: they guy should sing a Rolling Stones’ song.
Haha, and he did it with mimics and everything haha.
6.- Austrian ambassador: what kind of music do we know from
7.- Portuguese lady: since nobody knew what she could dance. She was asked to dance a bit of Brazilian samba, haha
8.- Swiss shy kids: there were 1 boy and 2 girls, all under 15 years old. They felt embarrased with the spot lights... and barely danced. Poor kids! Give them a big hurra!
Back to
9.
-
And what’s up with the
10.- American gang: they were 4 people. Mike, Brandon, another boy and 1 girl. I was wondering what the host planned for them. Well, they would have to dance as a group and also one by one, haha. So, they will prepare a choreography. All the audience was having fun and cheering them. Well, the host wanted them to do something special and since there was just a girl.
He took a chair and placed it in the middle. The lady would take a sit, while the 3 guys would dance for her, lol This gang was extremely fun, so their performance couldn’t stop. And the host didn’t want them to dance the YMCA, haha.
Well, after lots of fun and laughs they went back to their tables and the dancers came back. It was time for another Peruvian dance: “Afro” from the south coast. This is typical from the people from
We had a great time here and was the best way for Mike’s to spend his last night in
I had a blast and will miss Mike. Hope meeting him again soon. The past few days were just great!

The main attraction of the Candelaria is their show, which is performed in the dance floor. The show includes dances and music from all over the country: the coast, the highlands and the rainforest. The dancers are very good and their customs are colorful and nice. There is also a band which performs not only the typical music for the dances, but also dance music for the audience to dance while the dancers are taking a break.
One of the things I like from the Candelaria the most is the great host they have. Actually he looks a bit like a cousin’s friend, haha. This man is really bubbly and full of energy. He would not only explain and introduce every dance, but also he would make the people become part of the show. He would play with all the “international” members of the audience and organize contests, so the happiest table would get free drinks, haha.
Also they offer Peruvian appetizers and Exotic cocktails, haha. There are different cocktails with Pisco. The show starts at 10pm and keeps on going until 3am!
Every time I come here, I have a blast. It’s impossible not to have fun here. The best is to go with a group of friends, you know: the more; the merrier.
Do not forget to book a table in advance, try to get one close to the dance floor. As all the good places, this place is always packed. Just be ready to enjoy the show, dance and have lots of fun!
