Monday and it's back to touring

Even the angels look sad. Michelangelo's tomb at the Basilica de San Croce

Monday took us to Florence and to Pisa. Florence was a real disappointment. The trip into the city was quite long and the walk from the bus to the church square was quite long and the church was another church with a dark interior. We did see a statue of Dante and some of Michaelangelo’s work, but Florence on the whole was overrated, in my opinion. Of course we didn’t have much time to just wander around; this is the disadvantage of cruising—you are tied down to a strict schedule, but Monday was some kind of holiday so many things were closed.

After an average lunch (the lunch the day before was the benchmark and this one didn’t measure up) we went to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower. This was a delightful part of the trip—it redeemed the whole day. Pisa is clean and lovely and in the process of being made cleaner and lovelier. We really enjoyed it.

Warning:  If you want to go inside the church, be prepared to pay 5 Euro. Imagine!!! Needless to say, we didn’t go inside the church!
