Me and Perla at 3:00 AM at O`hare waiting for our flight.

We arrived at Guatemala City at 6:40 AM. This is the first time we use the new airport. It is definetely an improvement over the old one. The only terminal that is open has 12 gates and they´re planning to open a second one. Compare that to the old airport with the impressing number of 6 gates total.

My parents and sister were waiting for me at the airport together with some of Perla´s aunts and cousins. Christian and Oralia were also there. That was a surprise since their original plan said that they were going to go to Todos Santos today to see the crazy drunk horse race.

We checked in at the hotel and had breakfast with everybody at the hotel restaurant (La Poza). The restaurant is really nice with a waterfall in the back and decoration that suggests a natural cave and waterfall (see pictures).

We decided to go to Santiago in the afternoon for the Giant Kite festival. Check the next entry for details and pictures

Sounds like the trip is off to a great start. After my visit to Costa Rica, I now want to go visit Guatemala. Heard it's beautiful. Looking forward to see more postings.
