Enjoying La Quinta de las Flores
Today Perla and drove to Guatemala City to vote. At least Perla did since I didn´t have my ID with me. After that we picked up some stuff at Perla´s uncle´s business and headed back to Antigua to meet the group for breakfast
While we were at the city the rest of the group walked around the hotel. The place is very nice and the gardens are just incredible. Also we had a good view of the Fuego and Acatenango volcanoes.
We did breakfast at the hotel. Most of us ordered the Desayuno tipico which includes two eggs, black beans, fres cheese, plantains and tortillas. It was very good.
Since we were returning to the hotel in two days we packed a small bag and the very nice people at the hotel offered to keep our big bags in storage until our return.
We hit the road around 10:30am. The road was pretty nice initially, but towards the end it got really bumpy and Karissa and John who were sitting in the last row were really feeling it. Also our van wasn´t that powerful so in the steeper hills we could only go on first gear. To make matters worse many of the little towns we passed had decided to put speed bumps to prevent drivers from hitting people. The problem is that the bright yellow paint has almost faded in many of them and they were hard to spot. I know this first hand since several times I spotted them when I was too close to slow down easily, so I kept hiting the brakes at the last minute. This helped me keep the car in one piece, but the people inside the van didn´t have such a good time. From my rearview mirror I could see heads flying up and the down and then I will hear a lot of "ouchs" and "woah!". Sorry guys, I swear it was the road. I´m not such a bad driver.
