Rocking the Kasbah
October 16, 2007
Today we bid adieu to the cities and headed out to the Mid Atlas Mountains and the villages. Think French Foreign Legion. We drove thru an area frequented by Barbary Apes but none were spotted. Then again, I could have been napping at this point.
We arrived at our destination for the night, Auberge Jaafer, a cute hotel near the small, mud-brick village of Berrum. Once settled we met our host for an evening hike along a gorge (in which one flip flop lost it's life) and to the village where we were immediately set upon by the local children who bombarded us with requests for pictures! They loved being photographed.
After the hike it was a small happy hour followed by yet another typical Moroccan dinner. Our host brought in some villagers to play some music and an impromptu dance party commenced. Little did we know that this would be the first of three Team Erin dance parties! Lots of wine and personal information was shared this evening! Yikes!
The next day before leaving we visited Kasbah Myriem, a women's cooperative run by French nuns that teaches women knitting and weaving skills.
