Click, click.
We actually arrived in Meknes Friday evening. After a quick freshening up at the hotel we were packed into the "kidnap" van and taken to a lovely terraced restaurant in the medina. There we were served by the crazy and amusing Salim, who took a liking to Carolyn's eyes, hence calling her Fatima; and my name, which he pronounced Angel...ahh.
On this day, we grabbed some cabs and were literally whisked around Meknes, taking in the palace, palace stables, a medieval prison, the medina quarter, finishing in the big square for lunch. With a purchase of a carpet by yours truely as well. Our guide was a cute little guy, I believe named Omar, whose amused us all with his, "finish click, click. We go." After lunch we bid adieu to Omar, and met our new driver Jamal (more on HIM later) and the van that would be our wheels for the next eight days or so.
Our next destination today was Fes, with a brief stop to visit Volubilis, Roman ruins from the 3rd century BC. What I found interesting was the size of the ruins. There apparently is much more that has yet to be uncovered. Here we also learned that even then, men, were very vain and proud of their "appendages." Why do I mention this, you ask? Because one of the ruins was obviously a "house of ill repute" with the centerpiece being a stone phallus. Some things never change.
It was then back into the van and off to Fes, our first two night stay in one hotel! Yeah!!!
