When we pulled up in the late afternoon outside the Sand Dollar Inn, it looked a bit surreal, surrounded by shrubs, a clear sky and a gentle breeze - Very calm, very quiet. Looked like an ideal base from which to enjoy the white sand beaches, Fisherman's Wharf and quaint shops on Carmel-by-the-sea.
On closer examination, the Sand Dollar exuded even more old world charm - A tastefully decorated room, heated outdoor pool and spa, fireplace, a balcony with a magnificient view. The wife and I ventured out later that evening, and in the fading light, bathed by the soft glow of lamps, the inn looked just beautiful. I was beginning to like this place a lot. And I haven't even seen the golf course yet!
