Assisi was a last minute addition to our plans and boy were we glad we did add it. We got on the train from Florence and then got the bus up to Assisi. It was so beautiful. We fell in love with it on the bus up. It was just so peaceful and lovely. We found a nice hotel and asked for a triple room. They offer us a double and single for cheaper. Ok no problem. Then he takes us into a large nice double room and says this is the single we were sold. The boys room had a balcony and we spent the next few hours sitting on the wall talking looking out over the gorgeous town. Until that is of course we were driven inside by a thunderstorm. We got a text from our friends Darren and Andrew saying they would be in Venice for two days the day after tomorrow. Oh well there went spending a few days in Assisi we would get a train the next day.
The next day we went to St Francis' Bascillica. We seem to spend a lot of time in them in Italy. It was very beautiful but much plainer than St Peters. This guy was the founder of the Franciscan monks and very powerful. The only complaint I have about Assisi is the amount of steps and steep hills. Carrying around our backpacks looking for the hotel and then going to to the bus stop nearly killed us. We then jumped on a train back to Florence.
Then the disaster began. We booked a train to Venice. Your train will be 5 mins late, 10 mins late, 30 mins late. Ok now you can get on your train. Half an hour later we realise it isn't moving. Right everyone off get on this train to Bologne. Unfortunately this train was already packed by people going to Bologne. 2 hours later we get to Bologne and are told to get on another train to Venice. Sick of trains and the idiots who were yelling across us we hoped we were on the right train no one was speaking english and we don't speak Italian. When we got to the bridge across to Venice we had agreed that if it broke down we were just going to walk. But eventually we did get there and found a hotel we thought looked nice. We got a room and headed out to get chinese as the guys were having withdrawal symptoms. We spotted two very familiar figures coming towards us. Darren and Andrew had arrived a day early from Switzerland and were just coming to look for us. We went to their hotel to ditch their stuff and went to get that Chinese. Amazingly there were no thunderstorms but I suppose that the train ride was bad enough.
