Mumbai, Colaba and Andheri
I arrived, weary and tired on Monday after 27 hours on the train from Varanasi. Found a nice hotel to stay in, though it was necessary to treat myself :)
Made way to the famous Leopols Cafe for lunch, saw India Gate and went shopping for new sandals, and a pedicure to go with them (well, i had been travelling hard for over a month!). Met up with some fellow travellers and went to a couple of nightclubs in Mumbai, All that Jazz, and I can't remember the name of the other one!
On Tuesday (slightly hungover) I caught the boat to Elephanta Island to see the caves, where there are statues carved from the rocks. It was a great day, and plenty to see there. On Wednesday I met up with Tatiana whom I met in Manali. Went to Andeheri, where we got persuaded to participate in a bollywood dance class at Lockenwala.
Thursday I spent mooching around shops in Colaba and surrounding markets, Club Poison is very expensive, but a good night out. Friday I was asked to work in Andheri studios films and recording studios, doing the English voice over for a film called Suicide Point. We did some work with voice dubbing - it was an amazing experience.
On Friday, and by then I was exhausted. Mumbai is particularly draining, and the taxi drivers are a nightmare to deal with. How many times, had I been dropped off in the wrong place, taken the scenic route, or clearly overcharged, it was unreal - but it's best to be firm, agree the price or have the meter switch on at the start of the journey. Always ask your hotel how much the taxi trip should be so you get a rough idea.
So I arranged a tour by taxi on Friday, I went to Chapatti beach, the Hanging Gardens, the dhobi ghat laundries, and to M.C.Ghandi's house. Had time to spare before my train left for Goa, so went to see Spiderman III in the cinema in Colaba! Can't wait to get to Palolem!!!
