I spent a week up here, and was hoiping to be granted an audience with his holiness, the Dalai lama, but discovered that he was out of residence and would not be back for a few more weeks.
My first two nights I spent in Lower Dharamsala, still recovering from the horrors in Jammu. Found the food is great here, such a mixture of cuisines! I found a lovely guesthouse for 150 rupees a night, with bathroom and moved there on the third day. Spent most of my week exploring. Met some really nice people from Israel, and spent a lot of time doing things with them. The place I stayed was fab, run by a guy called Sunni. There were loads of monkeys around, and the sights were stunning.
They have some really crazy storms in Dharamsala, and plenty of power cuts too! I was held up in a restaurant until 3 am waiting for one of these storms to pass, as the rain was coming down so heavily, it was like standing under a power shower! Was warned not to walk throught he woods at night, as mountain leopards are known to prowl around after sunset.
Was disapointed that I did not have time to do the trek to Triund (the snow mountain), but have plenty to do next time! Spent Friday visitng the Dalai Lama's temple, shopping on the saturday, and packed ready to ctach by bus at 8pm Sunday to Manali.
