Adorable, luxurous and convenient hotel
Hotel Metropole was a treasure to us. The hotel claims Vivaldi lived here from 1704 to 1738. Sigmund Freud, Marcel Proust and Thomas Mann allegedly slept here. Well, you can certainly relate to that, when you´re entering the hotel. It didn´t disappoint us one bit! We felt like stepping back in time. It is decorated in a Victorian style and packed with all sorts of collections, ranging from fans, purses, bottle openers, crucifixes, cigarette cases and visting card cases. The salons are tucked with sitting niches just enviting you to sit back and relax.
The location is great, only two blocks from the Piazza San Marco and the views can be spectacular, if you´re in the right room. We were upgraded to a small suite, spacious enough for the three of us. BUT we didn´t get the beautiful view on the Bacino San Marco. Our windows were on a side canal. Some rooms look on the patio (or courtyard). If we´d known about this, we would have requested a room with a greater view. Keep in mind, that every room in this hotel is different: different view, different size, different decoration. It paid off though to phone them about their prices, because they gave us a weekend special, which wasn´t mentioned on their website. So, take care when you´re booking and don´t hesitate to call them.
The concierges were quite helpful. Upfront, I emailed them with a lot of questions. For instance, we didn´t know where to parc our car while we were in Venice. They emailed us with exact instructions for a guarded garage, including telephone numbers to contact when we arrived. They arranged a private water taxi for us, who picked us up near the garage. Indeed, they answered all of our questions even before our arrival. On request the concierge arranged a private tour to Murano and Burano. Yeah I know, it is the perfect tourist trap, but we enjoyed every second of it.
The breakfast was good and we just adored the outside patio. Their restaurant Met has one Michelin star. We only ate in the Met one night, because of the outrageous pricing, but to be fair: the diner we had was delicious, the service was perfect and we never ate better while in Venice. Or anywhere for that matter.
