Sirmione is located on a small peninsula that separates the nothern part of Lake Garda, in the province of Brescia (Lombardy).

Hotel Broglia has a perfect location in the historic town of Sirmione. It´s a pedestrian area, only reachable by car for residents. The hotel was friendly enough to give us directions by e-mail. `You tell to the policeman, in front of the castle, your name so you can enter in the historic center of Sirmione without problems.´ The Castle the hotel mentioned is the Scaliger Castle (13th century), with a medieval port fortification. Entering through the stronghold was somewhat scary...will that bridge hold after all those wars?

The hotel, 4 stars, was everything they promised. The rooms were outdated and small, but the service was all the better. Friendly and personal, the staff was making us feel sorry we had to leave the next day.

Breakfast and diner was of an outstanding quality. The location of the hotel makes it very easy to visit Sirmione in one day. The shops are wonderful and the people friendly. In front of the hotel is the stop of an electric train, that will bring you to Grotte di Catullo.

Other sights include:

The Scaliger Castle (13th century), including a rare example of medieval port fortification, which was used by the Scaliger fleet.

The church of San Pietro in Mavino, built in Lombard times but renovated in the 14th century. It has frescoes from the 12th-16th centuries, while the Romanesque bell tower is from 1070.

Santa Maria Maggiore (1400) with a single nave decorated with 15th century frescoes and a contemporary wooden statue of the Madonna Enthroned.
Bedroom, simple but clean.
