roskilde - viking museum
i took a day trip to roskilde, which is just west of copenhagen to visit the viking museum.
roskilde used to be a very important port in denmark, and during an attack they scuttled five viking ships of various sizes in the middle of the harbor to force an attacking fleet to land farther up the coast. all five of these ships have been recovered and partially reconstructed in some cases. one ship was 30m in length, and i believe they said it was the largest viking ship ever found.
back in copenhagen, i was having a bit of an issue figuring out which train i was supposed to take - a security man working at the train station helped me out with that, and once i told him i was going to roskilde, he suggested i check out the church on the way to the viking museum so i have included some photos of that as well.
