basically i hung around all day, as i have already seen most of rome - i tried to meet up with the americans i met last month, but was unable to get in touch with them and the vatican tours the run are closed this sunday.
in anycase, soon enough it was game time, and i headed down to circo massimo to watch the match on one of the three big screen tvs they have setup. i was able to get a good spot infront of the main one leaning against a short fence infront of me. im not sure how many people showed up, but it was shoulder to shoulder the whole park.
it made the trip worth it when italy won and of course the place went even more nuts than it had been the rest of the game.
on my way from parliament to trevi fountain, an old 50s style pickup truck filled with people and blaring techno came by, so i climbed on the back of that with the rest of the people. though we were going slowly, we all kind of moved as one in the back as it was so tightly packed - i damn near fell out on one corner, i had both my calves inside the tailgate, and i was holding myself up with my legs just hanging there until some guy grabbed my hand and helped me back into the truck.
the truck went back to parliament and stopped there, this time i hung around a while longer at parliament to enjoy the fireworks and general madness. soccer balls were everywhere being punted and its pure chaos when it comes down - everyones wrestling for the right to drop kick it again - all you see is a mob of 10+ people charging into unsuspecting crowds and bowling people over trying to get the ball. all the while theres shattered glass all over the ground which you just constantly hear as they are wrestling on the ground for the ball.
i managed to snag a few balls and punt them, but you really have to be quick and catch them in the right position with room infront of you before you get completely mobbed by people.
eventually i got bored of this, though it was pretty amusing to sometimes see shoes flying through the air along with the recently punted ball.
tonight i take a night train to munich - where ill decide what to do for a few days. perhaps back to interlaken, or maybe stay in munich - i have a few days to kill until berlin, we'll see.
edit: i guess i only took videos of trevi, so those will have to wait.
