arc de triumph

i never got a chance to fill this in, though im now in brussels this is the first internet cafe in a bit that i have been able to use my camera at so ill fill in some pictures.

paris would have been better had we stayed in a hostel but we were in a budget hotel instead. there was a lot to do though of course, plenty of sights. i climbed all 600 steps i think it was to the 2nd platform of the eiffel and took the elevator from there as there are no stairs for public use. stairs werent that bad at all, but i did pass some people who where very out of shape, as well as some people wearing rather large backpacks. they looked like they were going to pass out.

we also visited napoleons tomb which i thought was really good. they provided a free audio guide if you got a full priced ticket and that really makes a big difference when touring a site.

little guy, big tomb.

visited the louve which was pretty impressive, even if the mona lisa is only 2x2 or whatnot, but i had heard that going in. im trying to think of the other paintings i liked in there, but so much has happened since that im having trouble.

after the louve cheryl and i went to the arc de triumph where the french cops reprimanded me for removing my shoes while i sat down for a little bit. from here i managed to convince cheryl to walk all the way to la defense with me. id guess it was about 6 or 8km. the sunset was ok from la defense, but nothing like we had in florence.

sometime in all of this we stumbled across a gay parade with flatbed trucks all setup with dj booths and whatnot. it was a pretty crazy time and was likely to be a taste of what loveparade will be like.

napoleons tomb
except with a better ratio i imagine.

afterwards we headed back to the eiffel to see it at night before we headed out the next day, i would have really liked to have had more time to spend there at night, but our budget hotel was a bit too far outside the city center for my liking.

keeping with our habit of not planning ahead we didnt make reservations for the train we wanted to take to amsterdam, and of course it got filled up. this worked out ok because we wanted to go to versailles anyways but were just unsure if we would have time. turned out to be mostly a waste though as the weather was poor, the line long, and the hall of mirrors half under restoration. oh well.

how dare you insult the French police with your feet! they might have thrown you in prison, forcing you to eat nothing but croissants and wine!
