we took a night train to munich, so even though we only spent one night there, we got in most of two days. we messed up our scheduling so we had a couple of days to kill before our reservation in salzburg.
i think we picked a pretty good spot. very lively as expected during the world cup, met some really great people at the hostel and had many bratwursts and beers in our short stay. highlight would have to be going to haufbrauhaus downtown.. this place has got to be pretty nuts all the time, but with the world cup, it was just even better.
its quite a large beer hall, which serves giant liter mugs and some fantastic traditional german food. i had a liter of beer, bratwurst, and kraut. unfortunatley i forgot my camera, but we happened to run into some folks from rit at the hostel we were at, and they took pictures - once i get them ill toss em up.
our waiter came out carrying all six of our liter beers in one hand, which seemed impressive until we asked him what the record was, and he said 26 and explained how they stacked the glasses to do it.
the place itself, is basically just a ton of picnic tables, theres a band inside, and everyone is singing along, cheering, banging mugs on tables, and what not. and with the world cup, most of the tables were filled with fans wearing specific jerseys. so youd have the english table chanting vs the spanish table, etc. we also asked our waiter about the world cup, as there are no tvs, and he said they used to be able to show the games, but the place gets so rowdy that they arent allowed to anymore. understandable from the big beers and crazy crowds.
