Police between the ferries and the passengers.. the police lady in the white hat had on 4 inch spike boots....
The next morning David and Robert went down to the Ferry again...... The ticket agents were optimist and sold them tickets with assurances that they would depart later that morning.... We got our packs (backpack suitcases) and went to the docks.... We stood and stood with about 1000 people...... The longer we stood the more it seemed it might not be the date for departing..... We bought coffee and round yeast breat with sesame seeds.... The venders push a cart that has poles and the bread rounds are stacked on it... They were excellent.... (At least the strike worked for the bakers....lol....) Dock workers and ferry workers milled around near the ferries... then were was a big open area of 50 feet and all of the passenger hopefuls were standing.
The back of the ferries...
The police patrolled the middle area ..... not just a few police.... LOTS of police..... Finally the word was given that the ferries would not be running.. it was a bit disappointing but we walked back to the motel and got the rooms again.. ....
We checked with the Ferry office.... yes.... tomorrow for sure! We returned to explore more in Piraeus..... The next day we returned to the docks.... After a couple of hours David asked me if I wanted to sit down..... yes .... of course..... he walked across the forbidden zone and sat on the big concrete pad next to the ferry ramp. No one paid attention to him.
robert and Tara in the crowd....
I strolled on over and sat down.... then Robert and Tara. We sat and chatted with the ferry guys and dock men. It was really nice to sit and wait. We were apparently breaking no rules and a few times the police would come over... I am certain the thousand people standing were thinking... why the heck didn't I think of that???? but even though we were closer to the ferry it didn't load up or take off.... Again it was announced that we would not b departing.... Oh well..... We continued talking to people and tried to formulate a plan and we thought we might come back the next day.... We looked so unconcerned that several kind dockworkers came over to make certain we understood it was not going today..... We walked across the street and then saw that the windows of the ticket office had a bunch of bullet holes that had not been there the day before. David laughed and said..... this is not settling anytime soon let's go rent a car and explore the mainland.... .... Good bye Piraeus..... (the strike took over a week longer....)
