Santorini

Santorini is what was left from a massive volcano exlosion 3700 years ago (about 1700 bc). It was a big round island (that was the first name of it: Strogili, means round) and now is almost a half-moon shape island made of lava. The capital of the island is Fira...

Geografical is something unique, even with bare eye u can see layers that show various explosion that happened in the past (it seems to me, like im looking back in time) Santorini has the largest caldera in the world and of course two little 'island' in the center of it which are the volcanos, 'Nea & Palia Kameni'. Every new explosion was changing their shape and their size...

Santorini has 3 kind of beaches... the black, which is the most frequent, the red ( u can see it in the picture) and the white, only reachable by boat.

Santorini also has an archaeological site where u can see a 3000 year-old house & a bathtub (of the same age) still standing and many many other well preserved findings. It also have many museums: museum of prehistoric Thira, arcaeological museum, folklore museum, naval museum and wine museum.

Fira is offering the classical way of entertainment in the island and has an array of choices for all tastes. Cocktail-bars with view to Caldera, big clubs with mainstream music, a rock caffe, even an irish pub u can find... Gay-friendly places, smaller clubs with greek music, live greek music and a place where u can listen opera & clasic music, recumbent looking at the stars (i hate opera...)

Perivolos & Perissa have many beach bars, which are open till noon.

In Perissa is located the camping, which is big and nice & a big club where international DJ's play.

The island has also a big variety of shopping choices... Of course touristic shops, traditional products (like wine, raisins, capari, grapes...)  with souvenirs, clothes, shoes even unique pieces of art and of course jewellery!

Because my family owns a house in Santorini & Ive been there for 6 or 7 times, I cannot actually see that place as a touristic destination anymore... I thing what u feel when u visit that place cannot be discribed with words... I hope all these are quite helpful and not just crap... :)

Santorini is considered to be one of the most beautiful greek island, is also preety expensive and its ideal for couples, because of the romantic sunsets etc... There many more beautiful places in the island but i don't have enough pics.

ps. the island has airport and almost 100% humidity (but it's still wonderful)

Awesome pics! I was lucky enough to be in Santorini one day earlier this year - beautiful place! The hike to the top of the volcano crater is a &$*#@ though! LOL.
