Ah Florence!
We drove back to Florence for our last 2 days in Italy. Stayed at nice and very safe hostel not far from old city center. We needed at least 4 days in Florence...there's just too many museums to see. We went to the Acadamia and saw the Davide! I was not prepared for seeing this amazing piece of sculpture in person. Pictures do no justice! They also have a musical instrument section - well worth the time to explore. Walked around after this, found a cute bar with more truffle infused pasta...Ah truffles!!! Found two fun Irish bars there...(and the touchy feely drunkards - ugh!) so I was able to accommodate both my Irish and Italian sides! Next morning, I got out early (friends were still sleeping) and just wandered around the city. So quiet, people going about their daily lives. I went to mass in Italian on Sunday morning. Now, I did 9 years in a Catholic school and consider myself a recovering Catholic. But this mass, it was so beautiful. I truly hated to leave this city. There was such a great feeling...from the locals. I understand catering to the tourists - me being one of them - but, to live there, to be able to absorb the atmosphere, the history, the art and architecture! How amazing!
