Ha Long Bay was a nice place to spend three days. The water was about 23 and clear. The guide on the tour told us we could jump off the top of the boat into the water. We decided to try the jump from the lower deck and guess what the water was about 10 feet deep not the 30 the guide told us it was. That about sums it up for the reliabilty factor. We went to Cat Ba Island for the night for some seafood and beer. the town was almost dead, a few tourists, mostly Chinese. They come there on holidays with only the shirts on their backs no extra baggage; le puew.

We spent one afternoon kayaking into some neat caves and then a morning hiking around the middle of an island where a family does subsistance farming.  A very tough life.

Odd that Rick doesn't appear to be slimming down.

Hey we're heading to Thailand for 3 weeks in February - doing more or less the same thing.

Things are great in the Loops.
