End of the world and its snowing
I arrived late afternoon in Ushuaia to a bright, if cold, city. The southernmost city in the world, albeit a small city since the population isjust under 60,000. The weather down here can just very quickly, it quickly started to snow and with a strong wind it seemed along way from hot Buenos Aires.
However, the scenary is amazing with snow capped mountains all around and the water lapping Ushuaia´s shores. I also sawmy first king crab (spider crab) and are they big! Very nice with potatoes as well. They must be well over a foot wide. I had one in the Volver restaurant and very nice it was (both the meal and the authentic atmosphere of the restaurant. I also went to the Irish Bar (corner of 9 de Julio & Deloqui) which was very good and has good reasonable priced bar food, although it was very quiet for a Saturday night.

I would recommend this house to stay in, which is not a hotel, but a friendly guesthouse with 8 rooms, 5 mins walk down the hill to the main streets. Breakfast (from 8 am with a very refreshing freshly squeezed orange juice) and internet connection is included, but the helpfulness of the staff is very impressive and stands out. Ana, in particular, who looks after things for the owner goes out of her way to help, even lending me some gloves, which I failed to pack. The glowing reviews in the guestbook also bear the popularity of this place out.
At the moment the rooms are either 70 USD or 90 USD per night (no credit cards accepted), rooms also have cable TV, although I suspect most people will not be staying in their rooms with all this amazing scenary to look at. There is also a friendly dog here as well.
Friendly staff, good choice of bottled beer, including corona (12 pesos) and good value bar food are all plus points. Also it has a TV with cable which shows sports inc football, tennis etc. If you can, grab one of the 3 cool sofas which face out to a big window, with a view of the harbour.
