It was started in the14th Century by the Preston family, then sold to the Gilmours, who left in the 18th Century. Unfortunately, after that it fell into disrepair. Now it's in the hands of Historic Scotland.
After the castle, we headed to lunch.
After lunch, it was off to Rosslyn Chapel (of Da Vinci Code fame). This was before the movie, however. It was interesting to be there and see everything, and read about stuff that was in the book. Too bad there was scaffolding. But it was a beautiful area, and is plenty interesting beyond the scope of the book/movie.
From there, back to town. I couldn't get dropped off right at the hotel, but I got dropped off close by. And when I went to tip the driver, he said to keep it! My dad was astonished (he's a kayak guide who gets tips... well, is supposed to anyway, sometimes people don't). He said to have a beer on him.
From there, I went to Tesco to buy a few things, then back to the hotel for another night.
