We were fortunate that a family of 8 Polish adventurers chartered our boat, Dawn on the Amazon III, for a seven day Amazon cruise to the Fiesta de la Confraternidad. They were on an Amazon Challenge downstream to the Atlantic Ocean on the largest river on earth.
We made several interesting stops along the way but our main goal for this Amazon cruise was to arrive at the Triple Frontier in time to enjoy the 21st annual Fiesta de la Confraternidad.
It was a spectacular presentation of the best of each countries ethno-culture, from art, traditions, customs, feminine beauty, talent, sports, typical foods, music, dance, and folk-lore.
Sixty communities participated in a dugout canoe race on the Amazon River. The best soccer teams from each country competed. The loveliest women flirted with the judges and the crowd in the beauty contest. Sybila, a friend of ours from Iquitos finished 2nd. We thought she should have won.
On the last night the competitions were over, and the people came together like one large Amazonia family to celebrate. Even a rainforest rain could not dampen the festivities.
The next day our new Polish friends crossed over into Brazil on their way to Manaus, for the next part of their Amazon Challenge. We started our Amazon cruise back upstream to Iquitos. Everyone was happy.
