Galway Arts Festival
I drove to Galway and since everything is Ireland is close (Galway is only three hours from Dublin) it didn't take me long to get there. Finding my next hostel was a bit of a challenge but I finally found it and a place to park. Parking is a bit expensive as this is a tightly packed town. The most affordable place I could find was 18 Euro, but I can leave it over night. Other places were charging as much as 25 Euro.
Once settled I was able to locate the ticket office for the Galway Arts Festival which is an international arts festival held here annually. Since today is the only day I'm here I booked everything I could and found three shows that I could make. One play was great! The next was average. The third starts in about an hour.
After this next show I'm hoping to find a place that serves mussels for dinner and then I'll probably drink a few beers since I don't have to worry about driving miles back to the hostel tonight.
I'm still unable to upload pictures but I hope to find a place and a time when I'm in Dublin tomorrow. Checkout from this hostel is at 10a so I'll probably just leave town after breakfast.
Parking is tough here. At this time much of the central area costs about 3Euro for two hours which is the maximum on-street parking. Off-street parking costs more. I spent 18Euro to park overnight. I haven't seen anywhere around that doesn't cost to park so be ready for the added expense. When you are searching for a parking space be sure to check near train and bus terminals which is where I ended up parking. I found it was cheaper there then the hotel that was near the hostal I stayed. They would let you park there but it was abotu 50% more expensive.
As far as driving goes, get a good map. The streets are poorly labeled and you will need to travel by landmark. The driver's are not rude and mistakes are forgotten quickly. Just be careful.
Don´t forget, in Ireland they drive on the left side of the road and enjoy their roundabouts. When you enter a roundabout, or cross the street, it is most important to look to the right because that´s where the first lane of traffic is.
When you enter a large roundabout be sure to watch the lane indicators. If you´re in the wrong lane it will be difficult to get out at your exit.
