Well I'm stationed in Japan for 3 years and at first I hated it, but now I'm starting to enjoy the culture. I haven't seen to much, but I'm starting to. You have to get away from base though. If you stay on base it can get very depressing.

The Big Buddha

The Big Buddha was my first venture out into Japan.  When we checked into base, we had to go through a type of indoc.  They sent us out in town on the third day and Kamakura is where I ended up.  The train system is pretty easy to figure out as long as you know what city your going to. Once we arrived in Kamakura we asked the locals which way to the Buddha.  They were very friendly and pointed us in the right direction.  Once we arrived the Buddha was bigger then I expected.  It was really neat to see the local Japanese praying to it.  There are also a bunch of shrines around the Buddha. Overall it was a good trip.
