Introduction
October 17, 2007
Shelbyville is the county seat of Shelby County and is situated at the fork of the Big Blue and Little Blue rivers. It was incorporated January 21, 1850 and named for Isaac Shelby, the first governor of Kentucky. According to the United States Census Bureau, Shelbyville has 17,951 residents. Shelbyville is home to the world's oldest living person, Edna Parker (114), and was home to the world's tallest woman, Sandy Allen (7'7ΒΌ" or 232 cm), until her recent death on August 13, 2008. The two were actually friends and lived in the same retirement home. Our other claim to fame: four McDonald's restaurants (that's one for every 4500 people)!
