Docked in Naples, fourth stop of Mediterranean cruise. Words can't describe Amalfi Coast's charm! Highlights: 1. Gorgeous Amalfi coastline (reminds me of California Monterey coast on steroids) 2. Beautiful Positano & Amalfi 3. Remarkable Ravello, my favorite town in the world 4. Pompeii ruins 5. Scenic view of Naples.

Ravello - Beautiful Town Caught Between the Sea and Sky

Perched on a cliff 350 meters above the sea, Ravello commands the ultimate vista over the Amalfi Coast. It's a magical location that the French poet, André Gide, evocatively described as "nearer to the sky than to the shore." This unique landscape has inspired the likes of composers Richard Wagner and Edward Grieg, painters William Turner and Miro, and authors D.H. Lawrence and Tennessee Williams.

Many say that Ravello is the ideal travel destination for lovers "where nature, art, poetry and culture are part of the very air you breathe.

" All I can say is that this Kansas boy has been fortunate to visit many lovely places; yet, I find myself agreeing with Gore Vidal, a former longtime resident, who described Ravello’s panorama as "the most beautiful in the world."

In the center of Ravello, there's the intricate 11th century Cathedral. Every July since the early 1950s, the town has hosted the celebrated Wagnerian Music Festival on Villa Rufolo's grounds. The Festival commemorates the composer's love for Ravello and the inspiration he derived from Villa Rufolo for the second act of Parsifal. Villa Rufolo houses a magnificent medieval castle surrounded by extensive gardens. The exotic oriental plants and fountains frame an excellent view over the jagged peaks and the Mediterranean Sea.

One day, I hope to reside in the "beautiful town caught between the sea and sky."

Weil, Ravello and the Amalfi Caost is my favorite place :-) However, I must also say that Cannes, France, your new home, is near the top of my list and much nicer than my flat Kansas :-D
