So we are off on Thursday which is precisely 5 days from now when we will head off on the first leg of our trip.
We are flying Lufthansa to Beijing but our itinerary is as follows:
* Belfast City to London Heathrow - BMI
* London Heathrow to Frankfurt - Lufthansa
* Frankfurt to Beijing - Lufthansa.
We should arrive in Beijing around 8am on 2nd June.
We are staying at the Tawian Hotel which according to the reviews we have read about it is a basic 3 star hotel which is quite central!
Im nervous about going to China - l dont know why - lve been to Thailand, Indonesia & Singapore before so l have an idea of what to expect. Its just China is much more of an unknown entity somehow, and has really only opened up on to the tourist market in recent years.
In fact l know another reason lm nervous is because of the words of warning l have read about Beijing - whilst its all good in the fact that for major crime its a relatively safe city, lm paranoid of being scammed! Whether its by a taxi driver, "art" student or taken for the most expensive cup of tea in the world! Im think lm also nervous of my reactions towards locals due to this - l dont want to be rude but at the same time l dont want to be taken for a mug either and therefore l know with this in mind l may well be somewhat standoffish!
Still the time to leave is getting ever closer and l am excited about our trip! We get our passports with visa back on Tuesday from the Dublin Embassy, we need to renew our travel insurance and pick up spending money, and l really need to consider packing clothes too!!
If you give me about a week to ten days (as l dont know what it will be like for internet access where we are staying!) you should read more about how we are getting on - and by that point you will be able to see a photograph or two also!
