Rome - What a Birthday! Tuscany to Trevi
I was blessed to start my birthday in a 12th century castle in
One of my day’s favorite moments was seeing Trevi Fountain.
The first fountain at the site was built in 1453 by Pope Nikolas V, financed from wine taxes. In 1732, Clemens XII ordered the current fountain to be built and 30 years later, his predecessor, Clemens XIII, christened it. It was started by Nicola Salvi and finished by Giuseppe Pannini.
I seem to live my life through travel and music.
Admiring the early evening scene, I found myself humming the tune, “Three Coins in a Fountain.”
The Academy Award winning song was written by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn for the musical film (Three Coins in the Fountain) that tells the story of the three American girls looking for romance in
Trevi etched its fame in stone in Fellini’s "La Dolce Vita” (1960), when Anita Ekberg took a late-night bath in the fountain.
Legend says it's lucky to throw coins with your right hand over your right shoulder into Trevi Fountain. If you toss:
• One coin, you will return to
• Two coins, you will fall in love with a beautiful Roman.
• Three coins, you will marry that Roman.
THREE COINS IN A FOUNTAIN • Jule Styne & Sammy Cahn
Three coins in a fountain
Each one seeking happiness
Thrown by three hopeful lovers
Which one will the fountain bless?
Three hearts in a fountain
Each heart longing for its home
There they lie in the fountain
Somewhere in the heart of
Which one will the fountain bless?
Which one will the fountain bless?
Three coins in a fountain
Through the ripples how they shine
Just one wish will be granted
One heart will wear a valentine.
Make it mine, make it mine, make it mine!
