Chicago, the American unions, and smelling men

It's my third day here in Chicago and I have seen a lot so far. First of all I am here for work so I had to setup the computers on our booth at the McCormick Place. It is a huge place with lots of halls, business centres and offices. During the setup the hall wasn't air-conditioned. Maybe I should let you know that its more than 30 deg and a humity of 90%. Now imagine a hundred hard working men in that hall, absolutely disgusting...ewww.

And have you ever been in touch with the American unions? I have just made my first experiences, very funny! The workers are getting a break every 2 hours. Whatever they do, the just stop, whatever they carry, they drop it and go for their break. I was waiting for the delivery of the computers we rented. So the guy was close to our booth, I could actually see him comming, and then? Breakfast! He stopped his trolley, turned around and went for his break. Don't think I am allowed to move his trolley, no way! I had to wait half an hour until he came back and moved the stuff over to our booth. Unbelievable! But thats just one example, theres a lot more. You are not allowed to climb up a ladder, plug in a cable, or even change a light bulb.

There are loads of different people who are responsible for that and you have to wait until they come along and tell them what to do. They are totally mad!

However, all computers are up and running and I am well prepared for the trade show, which is starting tomorrow.

Beside of work I went for sight seeing today. I got up to the Sears Tower, floor 103! You might know that I am totally scared of heights. So, again, I was very proud of myself that I did it. And it was absolutely worth it getting up there. You have an amazing view throughout the city. Everything looks so tiny.

Well, afterwards I went to the Millennium Park.

The park was supposed to be finished by New Years 1999/2000 for the Millenium but finally completed in 2004, but they call it Millennium Park anyways. Oh and I saw the fountain which you can see in 'Married with Children' with Al Bundy :)

I just went for a walk on the shopping mile, bought some sandwiches and a six pack beer. I will spend the evening in my room, chilling, before the fair is starting tomorrow morning.

Good Night from the Windy City
