I studied at Jagiellonian University in Krakow for 18 months. I earned my MA in cultural studies (TransAtlantic Studies / Relations) from there - same university as Copernicus and John Paul II went to. :D

Wieliczka Salt Mine

I think enough blogs have explained what the Salt Mine in Wieliczka is, so I'll just briefly mention that it's a salt mine that started in the 13th century & only recently stoped officially mining.  It was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage list in 1978, then on their "World Heritage in Danger" list from 1989-1998.  The tour is a bit pricey, 61 zl. for the foriegn language tour, or 45 for the Polish language one.  Tack on 10 if you want to take pictures.  But it lasts around two hours (depending...) and is quite an experience.
