Desert near Aswan - Egypt

The next day we left for Hurghada. Hurghada is a relaxed coast place, with excellent and modern hotels. Many tourists come there to enjoy a beach vacation. Also good for snorkeling and diving. But it is no ancient place. After a resting day we it was time to go to Aswan. We were protected by Egyptian military. Because of attacks by radicals on tourists, Egypt protects it's visitors. Strangely we were the only bus, so there were more military people than tourists. After some hours we were in Aswan.

Aswan is in the south in Egypt en is even hotter than Caïro. When we were there is was 45 degrees. But in the middle of the summer it can easily get up to 55 degrees. We went for the Nile cruise for 4 days.

Faloeka in Aswan - Egypt
It really is worth while to do that. The Nile is beautiful, and from the boat you can do excursions like Philae and Esna. Aswan is certainly a place were you can visit a few things. First what we did is seeing the sunrise from a faloeka. A faloeka is a simple sailing boat which take you through the Nile. We could take great pictures, from the Nile and also see the desert land on the banks. There are since the coming of the Aswan Dam in 1902 the crocodiles live behind the dam in the south.

The next day we visited the Aswan Dam. Because of the flood the Nile caused many problems. This Dam made an end to this. Also it had it's site-effects, because there is no silt any more and the banks of the Nile are not suitable anymore for agricultural. In the afternoon we visited a Nubisch town. The Nubians are people originally from the Sudan. The villages are very colourfull, but I must say also a bit commercial when tourists visit it. Later in the afternoon we headed back to the highest point in Aswan to see the sunrise. It is absolutely a great thing to do. We had a bit bad luck, we missed a blue sky because of the hard wind we had that day so there was sand everywhere. But the view over the city is still great.

Many thanks! These pictures were even not taken by a digital camera (that camera came later). But still I like the results.
