Yellowstone National Park was our destination, but the "getting there" was the best part. Some days were hot and some days were wet and cold, but every day was wonderful. We rode our Honda Goldwings from the Mississippi River bottomland to the 10,947 foot summit atop the Beartooth Plateau in Montana. Come along with me, Jerry, Jan, and Randy as we cover 4,850 miles in twelve days. It was incredible.

Day One ~ 480 Miles

The four of us had been planning this trip for over one year and we were anxious to get started.  The weather in Alabama and Mississippi was unusualy warm for mid-September, but not unbearable.  We followed the cropdusters through the Mississippi River bottomland as they swooped low to cover the fields of cotton with their poison.   The smell filled our nose and stayed with us long after the little plane disappeared over the treetops.   Highway 70 took us beside swamps filled with swollen cypress trees on one side and on the other, massive grain silos.  Once the sun started to drop below the tree line, the temperature began to fall and our ride was much more comfortable.   We made it as far as Conway, Arkansas, before settling in for the night.  It had been a good day.
