Lunch with James, Lisa and Keishia.
that’s day one over. And I'm pretty pleased with how it went. First few minutes
were nerve racking as hell but it soon got easier. The students are all really
cool. Easy to chat to, willing to participate and (mostly) good learners. One
guy started learning English only 2 months ago and his English was excellent -
possibly one of the best in the class - which also includes students who have
been learning for up to 8 years! I was impressed. He learned it all from books,
films and rap music. I'm going to be working with this same group of
intermediate students for the next 2 weeks. Then I change to elementary ones.
Afternoon session was fine too (practical in the mornings, followed by theory
in the afternoons). Seemed to pretty much quote from the Learning Teaching
book which was on the suggested reading list. I think all the reading I did
over the last month is going to pay off massively. Just been set my first
proper, assessed teaching assignment which I have to do on Wednesday morning.
Feeling positive about it. Think I may make an OK teacher after all... phew! Or
maybe I'm speaking way too soon - we'll see.
I think I'm on the lookout for valium tonight! I need to sleep so badly and I
just know that my mind will be racing again tonight...
The girls at my hotel have been ace. They got hold of a guitar for me last
night - was up till 1am playing and chatting with them. I think they fancy me -
but then all the girls here do! How many times have I been told I'm a 'very
handsome man'! Makes a pleasant change anyway!
God, been at the school for 11 hours now - I got to go.
Laters all - missing you. x
