From Panajachel to Antigua

This ride took 5 hours when it was to take 2 hours. The reason? They are building new lanes on the road and they stop all traffic. Therefore 3 hours were spent without the minivan moving. It was fun, though! There were two other passangers, 2 American girls. I talked to the driver during the trip, got off several times when we had to wait and bought food and water from chidren that offered or young guys. I took a picture of a man working the land. I observed the landscapes and other cars and buses on the road. The only thing bad is htat I had planned to visit volcan Pacaya upon my arrival in Antigua and with this delay I missed the 2.00 PM tour. I was to arrive at 12:30 but got there at 3:30 PM.

Oh well, this is what traveling is all about, be open minded and flexible! There is always some learning.

I got to Antigua and left my things in my room. $70 Q, Universal offered a room at their office in the back. They called it  Hotel calle 6th. They are located 6 calle poniente # 19. Phone 502-5532-3274. Actually the price was advertised as 35Q but they charged me double because I was traveling alone. There were two beds in the room. The bathroom was outside, there were only 3 rooms. All night there was a barking dog. I got up several times, I got sick. I had a ticket to leave at 5 AM to go to Copan Honduras to see the Mayan ruins. I could not go as I was sick. The next day I looked for a doctor. I did some touring I changed hotels.

I went to a very nice hotel at #7, 7th street HOTEL SAN VICENTE. price 150Q 20 dlls, the hotel was a couple of blocks from the plaza. I visited some churches that were as old as the country. It was a nice experience to be on these churches. There are no roofs, only walls and beautiful gardens. I ate at the market breakfast 12 Q, I also ate across from hotel at an organic place, great food and next to this place tortas mexicanas, really good. The Mcdonalds has a lovely courtyard where I rested, did not buy any food. after 2 nights I left for Monterrico by local bus. It took me many hours to get there as I had to take several means of transportation, all exciting, including a boat. I met a nice woman, Consuelo who helped me. My trasnportation was about 50Q.
