Amritsar is famous for the Golden Temple which is the holiest temple in the Sikh faith. It is a beautiful temple in the middle of a lake, covered in gold and the place where the holy book of the Sikhs is kept. The lake is where the name of the city comes from. Amritsar means pond of the nectar of immortality. This city has a rich history attached to the saints and religious leaders of Sikh religion.

Come morning I went straight to "Harmandir sahib"/"Darbar sahib" (golden temple). Washed myself in the lake, visited the temple, sat for a while listening to the recitation of the 'guru granth sahib paath' and offered 'kana prasad'. The temple itself has been constructed beautifully in articulate marble patterns and most of the structure gilded in gold.

After spending enough time at the temple, visiting most places in the complex I went for 'langar'.
Me at the Golden temple.
Langar is the common kitchen, where all visitors are offered food free of cost, everything is prepared and managed by volunteers. The food offered here is considered holy/sacramental and no one is allowed to waste it. This is open 24 hours at Darbar sahib.

Soon after eating, I went through the market right next to Darbar sahib, and then to Jalianwala bagh to take a brief look at the memorial there. Thereafter I visited a few more gurudwaras (temples) that are close to the golden temple.

Since there was nothing much to do but wait for the train I decided to look for a cyber-cafe. Turned out to be a difficult thing. Firstly I got lost in the market, took some time to get out to a major road. And then no one seemed to know of any cyber-cafe that I could locate. Finally I found one. After spending about an hour there, I went back to pack things up before leaving.

Took another rickshaw to the train station. Interestingly I found my train on a platform with another train! First time I saw two trains on the same platform - apparently they have pretty long ones at Amritsar. My train for Jaipur left at around 18:30.
