Easy Essaouira
Easy Essaouira
A day of travel in our comfortable clean air-con mini bus from Casa via El Jadida, and another lovely seaside village where we stopped for lunch brought us to laid back "easy" Essaouria (pronounced Essa weara)
Saw many fascinating sights as we drove along...goats climbing in bushes!, my first Moroccon camel standing by the roadside, stone fences, scrub, locals on bikes, walking, on scooters, on donkeys, working, standing, sitting round waiting for buses, fields that looked as if NOTHING would ever grow in the dryness, plastic bag farms ( my name for the paddocks full of hundreds of floating plastic bags..a real shame..pollution at its worst)), fat tailed sheep, villages, horses, crumbling stone fences and buildings, salt flats, beach, crops, gum trees, pine trees, large flat expanses of stone.
..and even rolling Atlas mountains...WHAT a HUGE variety of scenery..and only Day 1.Paddled in the crystal clear waters of the mediteranean, walked through the old Portugese fort at El Jedida, watched men landing their fishing boats in lovely bays, So many sights and sounds.
We arrived in Essa just after sunset to our very impressive 4 star hotel complete with pool in the courtyard, clean and comfortable rooms and excellent dinner of fish soup, fried fish (full of tiny bones!!!!) and fruit salad in very nice surroundings ...beautifully decorated in Moroccan style. I was very impressed with this standard of accomodation...wonder if it will be the same during the rest of the trip? Had time to wander down to the main beach corniche with a couple of the girls...lovely!
