I've toured North America, I've lived in London, and now it's finally time to get out and explore Europe...

yet another stopover

Bosnia! (with Croatia in the background)
This morning I went out for one last sashay along the Split waterfront before jumping on a bus bound for Dubrovnik.  Apparently I'd never looked closely at the map to realise that the skinny southern bit of Croatia is not actually connected to the rest of it - so I was a little surprised when they announced passport control.

So we entered Bosnia & Herzegovina, had a 20 minute stopover, and 15 minutes later we were back through passport control on the other side.

Amazingly, the Bosnian coast was strikingly similar to the Croatian coastline - both very rugged, rocks dropping right into the sea, and the sparkling ocean of course.  At one point we suddenly drove through a heap of orrange groves, with people putting up the canals with boats laden with crates of oranges - very picturesque.  The coastal trip was a big contrast to when I came down through central Croatia, where every second house was abandoned / trashed / broken windows / falling down - quite a bleak landscape.  (apparently when the Serbs left they trashed all their own property, rather than leave it for someone else to take advantage of).
