Prague, from atop the South Tower at St. Vitus's Cathedral

I stumbled into Prague yesterday after an eight hour bus ride from Frankfurt, and set off to see some of the sights before they were mobbed by other tourists.  Some of the things that I saw before the crush were the Charles Bridge, Old Square with the Astronomical clock and Týn church, and St. Nicholas's Cathedral.  After that bit of sightseeing I headed to the hostel, which is located 20 minutes outside of the main part of the city.  It's located right on the bank of the Vlatva river, and is called The Boathouse.  I dropped my stuff off, and since it was around 90 degrees out, I went for a swim in the river--it was very cold, but refreshing.

I met a couple people since I've been here, like the two teachers from Southern California, Melanie and Sara.

They really party, and it's funny to think that perhaps my previous teachers had a hidden wild side.  I also met Vladimir, who is from Belarus, while I was drinking downtown.  He had taken English for 11 years, so it was no problem conversing, and it was fun to hear his ideas.  He was with his three Russian friends Peter, Ivan and Ivan (no joke), and his girlfriend.  They asked about what New York was like, and what the job situation is like.  They brought up Brighton Beach, which is known in NY for being a city heavily populated by Russians, and said that it has more Russians there than are actually reported, similar to Moscow.  They mentioned that Moscow offically has 10 million people, but it is more like 16 million.  The difference is made up of illegals, or people who haven't registered with the government.

So the beer is great here, and inexpensive, at about $1 a beer, which probably explains why I have a headache this morning.  I was out until 5 AM last night, and woke up at 8:30, so I think I'd better get some sleep.
