The Spaniards bring the noise
After the excitment of watching my first Cup game, I could barely wait for today's match of Spain vs. Saudi Arabia. My sister and I rented a car to travel from Nurnberg to Kaiserslautern, and I got to experience the thrill of driving 180 km/hr on the Autobahn. Even going as fast as I was (around 110 mph), there were cars with high powered engines such as Mercedes, BMWs and Porsches flying by me. If I was to guess, I'd say they were pushing 140 mph.
This game was a lot more exciting, mostly because of Spain. They played a different game then either USA or Ghana, putting together a lot of good passes, and scoring a goal in the process. The Spanish fans were really into the match, cheering, singing songs, and banging drums. Almost every fan was in a Spain jersey, and they were enthusiastic in their support. It made me wish that my country was as into football (soccer, that is) as the rest of the world--it's really something seeing national matches like this.
I didn't get to see much of Kaiserslautern, since we drove up to Frankfurt soon after the end of the game, but I did pick up that there is a large US military base in the town. Other than that, I didn't see much that interested me, probably because it is a small town, the smallest to host a World Cup match this year, in fact.
