The other thing I see in abundance in the RLD are coffeeshops, the puveyors of herbal enhancement for the pot-smoking set. It looked like the patrons were from all age groups, but primarily were college-aged students that looked like they were taking their vacation here for one reason--to get stoned. Kind of lame, actually.
Right now, I'm lying on the grass of the Museumplein, a large lawn next to the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum. It's sunny and 23° C, and there are people lying all over the lawn soaking in the rays. There are bikers everywhere, most of them quite fit, riding clunkers on the wide bike paths that cover the city. The bike paths are present on every major road I've seen, and many are paved with brick, as are the pedestrian walkways. With no building greater than five stories high, Amsterdam has a very quaint feel to it.
