A private guide through the masses

If you would like to visit the Vatican, but you're a little short on time, I would highly recommend booking a private tour guide through a reputable company in Rome. Some of these tour guides will even purchase your tickets for you in advance to save a little more time. The reason for the tour guide is that the Vatican is essentially two parts: the Vatican Museum and the Vatican itself (the Basilica, administrative buildings, etc.). Having a private guide take you through the museum allows you to cut past all the huge groups, to hear every word that your guide says, and to have your guide focus on the art, artifacts, rooms and history that you want to see and hear about -- because there's no way to see and hear about everything in the Vatican and the museum in one visit.
Also, if you're more interested in seeing the Basilica than the museum, make sure you make haste through the museum, the Sisteen Chapel, etc., to the Basilica or you may be disappointed.
Tour Guide Information: I have provided the tour guide company information in my "Rome" entry for Tuesday, October 2, 2007.
