It's all about the tower (and the cookies)

Well after arriving in Pisa (Italian traffic is ridiculous!) I jumped out to take several photos of the tower from different angles. I wanted to see the lean, but I wanted to lighting to good and I wanted all of the people who where trying to "hold up" the tower to be out of the way. I must say that trying to take good pictures of the tower was a lot of work! :-)
Our guide told us a lot about the schools in the area and the medical research conducted there that makes the people very proud. Several U.S. companies engage in medical research in and around Pisa because of all of the educated people in the area.
Other than the tower though, there's really not that much to see in Pisa. I did run across the street from the tower to a cafe to try some of the cookies that were freshly baked. The cookies were great!
I'd have to say that if I was going to do the day all over again, I might actually skip Pisa and head straight to the hilltop towns in Tuscany and Umbria. I know that the tower is famous, and it was great to see it, but the traffic that we had to get through to go to Pisa wasn't really worth it. The tower looked exactly how I expected that it would. The landscape in Tuscany, however, was truly beautiful and I wish I could have spent more time driving through that area.
