Our Royal Caribbean cruise (Voyager of the Seas) stopped in the bay of Villafranche-sur-Mer for the day and we tendered into the port. There is no pier in Villafranche, so tendering is the only option and it affords an opportunity to take some fantastic pictures of the rooftops, the large villas, the yachts and the hills, all from the clear view of the bay.
The train station in Villafranche-sur-Mer makes it very convenient to take a train to Nice and Monaco. The train comes every 15 minutes or so. Alternatively, there is a taxi stand just outside the port security building. A few of us went to Monaco and a couple of us stayed in Villafranche.
I chose to walk around the village and to take some pictures of the gorgeous town.
On our walk, we stopped at La Trinquette, a nice cafe just behind the fort and near the water. We sat at a table on the porch and drank a carafe of red wine while relaxing and soaking in all of the sights and sounds. It was fun watching the cars and scooters move their way down the small winding roads, and seeing the "guard dog" of La Trinquette keeping all of the other little dogs out of his cafe.
